Art Show 2012-2013

Image
Like I promised, here are a few picks from this years art show 2012-2013. This years show filled the gym and extended into the hallway. We had a great turnout with parents. This year we continued with our make and take art tables and our Artist Affirmation Box. A big hit every year.

Cyclorama

Image
Well, I know that I have been missing in action, but i have a good excuse. I had the pleasure of going on two back to back field trips with my seventh and eighth grade students. I started out in Chicago for two days with seventh grade, came back to Michigan and woke up at 4:00am to catch the next trip to Washington D.C. The East Coast trip was great this was my second time going but enjoyed it even more.  Below are a few pictures of a cyclorama. It was amazing...this life size mural is unreal, the details are life like and the special lighting and effects are an added plus. This mural depicts the battle between the Confederates and the Union Army. A must see....photos do not do it justice.

Missing in Action

Image
I know that I have been missing in action for a while but I will return soon. My husband and I just bought our first home and I recently finished our annual student art show in the middle of moving into our home. I have more boxes to unpack and I am so ready for a vacation. Smooches.

Kindergarten Octopus

Image
This is a kindergarten project inspired by a greeting card that I saw on Pinterest. The Kindergarten classes started learning about short vowel and long vowels. I wanted to find a lesson that would help introduce the short vowel O. So, we created a mixed media project using the short vowel O in Octopus. Warning: this project took about 4 to 5 35min. class sessions.             We started by painting a 12X18 white paper using blue tempera paint.  Next we took Syran wrap while the paint was wet and covered our paintings thoroughly. (My advice is to have a parent or aid help with this process or pre-cut all Syran wrap prior to this, believe me it helps).  Once it has dried you should get a nice wavy texture on your blue paper. I hope you can see it on this picture (sorry about the glare).   Next, we took  our pre-made stencil and traced and cut it out of orange paper.  ...

Clay Animals and Creatures

Clay animals and creatures. My seventh and eighth grade basic design class completed these at the end of the trimester. We learned about a few clay hand building techniques, bisque fired them and used tempera paint to make them come to life with color.

Angry Bird Clay Project

Image
Angry Birds!!! This was a simple lesson on pinch pot methods and hand building with clay. I have three six grade classes that I see each week, and I decided instead of having almost 90 clay projects of the same thing each class created a different clay project. One class created pinched pot snowmen and this one created Angry Birds.  I'm still not sure as to what I want to do with the next sixth grade class. Any suggestions?    We used tempera paint for color and they turned out great. Each one is so different.
